Day care centre opens for business
14th May 2015
A NEW adult day care centre in Conisbrough has welcomed its first clients.
Terrace Gardens is based at DWDT’s premises on Castle Avenue where manager Rebecca Carter is offering a fresh approach to care.
Rebecca, who lives in Mexborough, has worked in the sector for 17 years and gained wide experience of residential and nursing homes. Last year she set up her own company, along with a business partner, to offer a flexible service to people in Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham.
The new centre has disabled facilities and a scenic patio area and is aimed at people aged over 50 who are generally independent or require minimum support. They can choose to visit for an hour or two, half a day or all day. Unusually, the centre will be open every day to support carers in need of respite and to ensure provision at weekends when people can feel particularly isolated.
A varied range of activities including crafts, cookery, gardening, games and music are available along with meals and refreshments prepared on-site.
“My aim is to provide a home from home that makes a difference to people and puts a smile on their faces,” said Rebecca. “Very often, with time, support and encouragement, older people with limited abilities can still do the things they enjoy. Having company, interests and social interaction has a positive impact on everyone and that’s what I want to achieve,” she added.
