Event to highlight free family support

24th November 2014

SUPPORT for families across the borough will be on the agenda at an event hosted by a Doncaster secondary school this month.

Balby Carr Community Academy is holding its tenth family support and advice fair to showcase local services that offer practical resources to Doncaster residents.

More than 30 exhibitors with expert knowledge of family support such as housing, community facilities, debt, health, careers and child support will be among those providing information.

Staff from the Money Matters project run by Doncaster West Development Trust (DWDT) will share their tips for budgeting, saving and cutting costs as well as giving details of a new one-to-one debt support service. They will also invite people to take part in a free competition to win a supermarket hamper by guessing the price.

Independent training providers, Victim Support and organisations supporting homeless people and young parents will also be represented.

These regular events have previously attracted up to 800 people, demonstrating the need for wide-ranging advice. Jessica Congreve of Balby Carr said the event was open to all members of the community including other schools and agencies.

“It’s a chance to see what support and information is available in the hope of increasing the support network to local people,” she explained. “It also serves as a really positive networking opportunity for professionals.”

The advice fair takes place on Thursday, November 27 between 10am and 3pm in the main hall of Balby Carr Academy on Weston Road. It is free to attend and refreshments will be available.
